Directions
Safe-Guard® AquaSol is sensitive to light so keep the bottle of product in the dark. Once it is mixed with water it must be used within 24 hours. Replace with fresh water and a new batch of Safe-Guard® AquaSol from the bottle provided each day for five consecutive days. It’s important to remember that once water mixes with the Safe-Guard® AquaSol product it is only useful for the following 24 hours, which is why five syringes are provided for the treatment cycle, so there’s a new one for each day.
The daily dose of 0.454 mg/lb is equivalent to 0.0022727ml/lb Safe-Guard® AquaSol. Work out the average weight of each of your chickens and then add them up to get the total weight.
Example #1
Ten chickens with an average weight of 5lbs each = 50lbs
50 x 0.0022727 = 0.12ml (rounded up) per day for the flock of ten chickens.
Example #2
Seventy chickens with an average weight of 14 ounces (= 0.875lb) = 61.25lbs
61.25 x 0.0022727 = 0.14ml (rounded up) per day for the flock of seventy chickens.
Example #3
Fifteen chickens with an average weight of 6.5lbs each = 97.5lbs
97.5 x 0.0022727 = 0.23ml (rounded up) per day for the flock of fifteen chickens.
How to garner the average weight of your chickens: Kitchen scales typically take up to 11lbs so most chickens can be weighed using them, if you can get the chicken to stay still for the two seconds it takes to read the weight. Weigh one out of each breed or similar size breed to determine the weight and then multiply that by the number of chickens in that size range. So, you may weigh your rooster at 8lbs, one of the Rhode Island Red or Cinnamon Queen hens at 6lbs, one of the Ameraucana hens at 5.5lbs, a Golden Laced Wyandotte at 4lbs and it will add up like this: Rooster 1x8lbs + Rhode Island Reds 5x6lbs + Cinnamon Queens 2x6lb + Ameraucana 4x 5.5lbs + Golden Laced Wyandotte 3x4lbs = 84lbs total weight. Then take 84lbs and multiply it by 0.0022727 = 0.2ml (rounded up) per day for the entire flock.
How to use the treatment:
1. Chickens drink between one to two pints of water per day, depending on weather and conditions. One pint = 0.5 liter. Two pints = 1 liter or 1 quart. Watch each day how much water your flock consumes and make a note of the weather on those days observed.
2. Use your usual container and fill it to the level which measures the amount you’ve determined your flock drinks in one day.
3. For example, during October (in the northern hemisphere) it’s typically cool days so your flock may drink only one pint each per day, and there’s eight pints to one gallon. If you have twelve chickens and a five-gallon water container then you will put 1.5 gallons of water into that container each day with fresh Safe-Guard® AquaSol for five consecutive days. We recommend adding quarter to half gallon more water for this size flock to err on the side of caution, so they don’t run out.
4. At the beginning of each day, throw out the previous day’s water with Safe-Guard® AquaSol in it and add fresh, clean water, and a new batch of the Safe-Guard® AquaSol.
5. Make sure there are no other water sources for your chickens during the five consecutive day treatment cycle.
6. Do not use other treatments which are meant to go into their drinking water at the same time as using Safe-Guard® AquaSol.
Safe-Guard® AquaSol has zero-day egg withdrawal, which means you are not required to have any days during or after the product use cycle where you must avoid eating the eggs.
